A mother of seven has been reportedly shot dead when a gunman broke into a church during a prayer session leaving about two other worshippers wounded.

The 55-year-old woman identified as Chinyere Agwu, WARRI TODAY learnt was shot dead during a morning prayer session at Solution Ground International Church in Amasiri Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that the incident took place at around 5:10am last Sunday March 24th, 2019.

Sources at the church told our correspondent that the mother of seven who doubled as the woman leader of Solution Ground International Church had gone to church for intercessory prayer session before the main church service commenced.

It was, however, not clear why the suspect attacked the church and killed the deceased.

On getting the church door, the prayer intercessors spotted a man whom they identified as Paul and he allegedly opened fire on them leaving Chinyere.

A source said, “She (Chinyere) felt down during the gunshots. Bullets also hit another woman worshippers on the left side of her shoulder but she managed to run into the bush for hiding.”

The General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Michael Uche told WARRI TODAY that he was alerted about the incident by her mother who was one of the victims but escaped the attack.

On his part, an Assistant Pastor in the Church, Emmanuel Onyiagha said they resorted to self help after failing to secure the assistance of Special Anti Robbery Squad to rescue the victim.

Pastor Onyiagha said late Mrs Chinyere Agwu was rushed to a hospital where she was discovered to have suffered multiple bullet wounds before and later died.

When contacted for official confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer in the Ebonyi State, Mrs Loveth Odah said the suspect who was identified as Paul has been arrested.

Odah said although the suspect denied the allegation, the police were presently investigating the attack.
