United States Promise To Help Fight Insecurity In Nigeria


The United States has assured Nigeria of its willingness and determination to support the country in the fight against insecurity.

US’ Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard gave the assurance while speaking in Abuja on Tuesday during a visit to the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami.

Media aide to the AGF, Dr. Umar Gwandu, revealed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Gwnadu quoted Malami as expressing satisfaction with the support and mutual understanding between Nigeria and the US in the fight against corruption, repatriation of looted funds and extradition of people involved in terrorism financing.

Part of the statement reads: “At a meeting held at the office of the Attorney General of the Federation in Abuja on Tuesday the two nations emphasized the need for effective partnership in ensuring safe, secured and prosperous Nigeria.

“According to the two nations laws are meant to achieve collective peace among people and governance about improving the welfare of the majority of the people.

“They maintained that holistic approach is needed in striking a balance between public interest and rights of individual citizens.”
