A leading computer technology firm in the United Kingdom (UK), The Tech Ladder (TTL), has certified no fewer than 70 Nigerian students trained on a free online computer engineering programme.

The beneficiaries who were trained on Business Analysis, Project management, Microsoft office suite, Computer repairs, Programming, Database management among others had already been satisfied upon completion of the programme.

The Director/CEO of The Tech Ladder (TTL), Ms Elsie Reed disclosed this in an interview on Saturday, saying that the programme is designed to train and equip beneficiaries on today’s IT driven economy.

Reed, currently working as a business intelligent manager in UK and a Board Member of Shantona Women’s Center Leeds, said the beneficiaries were drawn from Nigerians home and abroad.

She added, “We prepare them for Microsoft and project management exams. We have so far trained up to 70 in computer fundamentals such as Business Analysis, Project management, Microsoft office suite, Computer repairs, Programming, Database management.

“We have students from universities in Nigeria and Leeds doing industrial attachment with us. We also have Nigerian trainers who live in Nigeria

“We have Nigerian students living in the Diaspora like UK, America, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Belize already enrolled in the programme. We don’t discriminate tribe or religion on our application form.

“We have like 15 in training and over 20 signed up students for the next batch which starts in a month. Students also work on real life projects, which help them, develop real life skills and be involved in all the software development life cycle. So they get to understand how different teams come together to solve real life problems.”

According to her, TTL is a UK registered and licensed technical and vocational training centre and member of UK’s Online centre network, chambers of commerce, Social enterprise and Yorkshire and Humber (SEYH).

The IT firm awards City and Guild certificates and provides opportunity for personal and economic development through job search assistance, interview skills, mentoring, and apprenticeship.

“We are a job resource Social Enterprise Organisation that helps individuals by promoting independence, accountability and career development for preparation to enter today’s workforce”, she explained.

According to her, the programme is self-funded and “sometimes we provide startup equipments, like I will be giving to two computer repairs students who did well”, she disclosed.

The Delta-born IT guru, who hails from Okpe Kingdom of Urhobo Nation, holds a Master’s degree in information systems management, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. 

Among her many IT certificates, she holds the IBM Expert and is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer besides also being a Microsoft Certified Database Administrator.

With 20 years of active experience in IT consulting as a database administrator, project management and now business intelligence consultancy, Elsie has worked with the FDIC America, the American Federation of teachers, and Accenture.

Armed with an MBA and also several IT certifications, Elsie has worked as an IT consultant for companies like Citibank, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Meccedes Benz, American Red Cross, the US Department of Health, Verizon and Alcon/Novadis in USA. besides also Boots and NHS in the UK, TDIC Abu Dhabi and GBM Qatar. 

Elsie has been instrumental in creating paradigm shifts in Nigerian society – through the opening of the first school in Okoijorogu, the creation of healthcare and eyecare camps for several people in Delta State, and through sexual harassment awareness drives. 

Elsie has been awarded by several international forums including the United Nations’ Volunteering system through her NGO’s efforts, for three years in a row.
