Tribunal Sacks Gov. Duoye Diri Of Bayelsa, Orders Fresh Election

Bayelsa State Governor-elect, Duoye Diri receiving certificate-of-return

The Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Monday voided the November 16, 2019 governorship election where Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged winner.

The ruling followed a suit filed by the Advance National Democratic Party (ANDP) challenging their unlawful exclusion from the election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a majority judgment delivered by Justice Yunusa Musa, the tribunal held that INEC unlawfully excluded ANDP from the exercise.

It, therefore, ordered INEC to conduct a fresh governorship election in Bayelsa State within 90 days.

It further ordered that the petitioner, King George of the ANDP be included in the fresh election to be conducted.
