In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Delta State Government owned media, the Pointer newspapers, Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara have been honored for championing technological advancement in the state and beyond.
It would be recalled that the Pointer newspapers held an elaborate 30th anniversary on 28th October 2024 at the Grand Hotel, Asaba with the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori in attendance.
The chairman of the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC), publisher of The Pointer, Olorogun (Dr.) Ebenezer Okorodudu while receiving the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri at his office recounted that the first edition of the Pointer newspapers was published on 28th October 1994, and it’s imperative to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the corporation existence. The chairman stated that the Pointer is the only printing media that have survived all odd and achieving great feats in carrying out Delta State government information, activities and achievements.
Dr. Ebenezer commended the Rector for the remarkable progress, great innovation that distinguished have him academically and in administration. The chairman informed the Rector that under his watch and administration, the Polytechnic invented fuel-less generator that is being celebrated not only in Delta State but the entire country and beyond. Thus, in recognition of the Rector’s contribution to Delta State Polytechnic, innovative ideas, administrative achievements in managing both human and technical resources, and general upgrade of the institution thereby bringing the Polytechnic to a limelight, the Rector, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri was among the eminent Deltans selected to be honored at the 30th anniversary of the Pointer newspapers.
Prof Biri while receiving the award on behalf of the Polytechnic at the chairman’s office thanked the corporation for the statewide recognition and award. Speaking on the fuel-less generator, the Rector stated that the idea was conceived when in 2009 he visited Austin, Texas, USA. He further stated that on assumption of duty, he discovered that the Polytechnic was spending much on diesel which he was able to reduce by half. The Rector informed the chairman that he received invitation from Kenya last August to speak on the invention. He also stated that the BBC sent reporters to the Polytechnic to make a report on the Polytechnic technological breakthrough.
The Rector dedicate the award to God, the Delta State Government, staff and students of the Polytechnic promising to do more to project the administration of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori and the state in general.
The Corporation General Manager, Godfrey Ubaka and other senior staff and editors joined the chairman to receive the Rector delegation.
