At least two persons were reportedly shot dead on Sunday at Emene area of Enugu State when security operatives and members of the disbanded Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were engaged in a bloody clash.
It was gathered that IPOB members were said to be holding meeting in the community when operatives of the Department of State for Security Service reportedly rounded them up.
It was gathered that operatives were attempting to arrest members of the group when the venue was rocked by gun shots.
Community sources claimed that the deceased were members of IPOB who were allegedly resisting being arrested by security personnel.
Sporadic shooting from both factions led to a state of pandemonium in the community as residents fled for safety during the melee.
While two persons have been confirmed dead, locals claimed the death toll was far more than the numbers reported in the media.
Our correspondent further learned that more security operatives were drafted to the community when operatives who carried out the sting operation were being overwhelmed by the IPOB members.
It was also alleged that unspecified operatives of DSS and members of the group were still missing as a result of the clash.
The Enugu state Police PRO, ASP Daniel Ekea, could not be reached for comment as of time of this report.
