Tension In Delta Community As Pirates Attack Military Checkpoint, Soldier, Two Others Killed

At least three persons including a soldier have been killed during a clash between military operatives and suspected sea pirates in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at Tuomo community at about 10:30pm on Monday.

The incident is currently brewing tension among residents of Tuomo and other neigbouring communities in Burutu.

It gathered that the hoodlums were said to have launched attack on a military checkpoint in the community with the aim of dispossessing soldiers attached to the checkpoint of their ammunition.

The gallant soldiers were learnt to have rebelled the gunmen who stormed the area with a speedboat.

Aside the two killed pirates, the soldiers also arrested one of the fleeing gunmen during the attack.

Multiple sources confirmed the incident to NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online on Tuesday.

Our sources claimed tension has pervaded the community and its neighbours.

Efforts to reach authorities of Operation Delta Safe on the incident proved abortive.

When contacted, the Delta Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said he had not been briefed on the incident.
