Tension In Delta Community As Cult Clash Leaves Many Injured

Two persons have been reportedly feared killed in Mosogar Town in the Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State when rival cult groups clashed.

Several persons were alleged to have sustained injuries during the attack.

But police, while confirming the incident, said no body was killed during the clash but injuries were recorded.

NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday night when one of the cult group retaliated an earlier attack on another group member.

One of the victims was said to have been reportedly axed by the armed-wielding hoodlums to death.

The second victim was alleged to have been shot at a close range.

Unspecified number of persons were said to have sustained varying degrees of injury.

It was gathered that the clash was between members of Eiye Confraternity and Vikings.

Although what led to the clash was still sketchy at the time of filing this report, locals told our correspondent that it was a supremacy battle between both groups.

Members of the groups were said to have began fight on Thursday afternoon where two members of one of the cult groups were injured.

The group whose members were injured earlier in the afternoon were alleged to have launched the night attack where two persons were feared killed.

Sources said those injured in the attack included residents who are not members of any of the groups but were receiving treatment at different hospitals in the area.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the cult clash.

She said five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that those injured are receiving treatment in hospitals.

The police spokesperson added that she was not aware if anyone was killed in the attack.
