Tension has enveloped Ughelli, Delta State, as police operatives have stormed streets of Ughelli in search of protesters who allegedly murdered a police corporal during Thursday’s #EndSARS protest in the city.
It was learnt that operatives have taken over major junctions arresting persons suspected to have participated in the protest which also left another cop and a civilian injured.
NIGERDELTATODAY reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Friday ordered the Delta Police Commissioner, Hafiz Inuwa, to fishout the alleged killers of the cop.
The IGP, who condemned the killing, vowed to prosecute the suspected killers upon arrest.
Our correspondent reports that Ughelli is in chaos over alleged indiscriminate arrest of residents especially youths alleged to have taken part of the #EndSARS protest on Thursday.
Several persons have been arrested in the ongoing raid of the town by heavily armed operatives who were also seen shooting.
However, the State Police Command has not reacted to the development as efforts to speak with command’s spokesperson, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, proved abortive.
