An operative of the newly inaugurated Operation Delta Hawk (OPDH) have reportedly killed a woman in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The woman, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, was said to have been hit by a stray bullet fired by one of the operatives.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday night in Asaba.
OPDH is a joint security outfit comprising personnel of the Nigerian military, police and other sister agencies set up by the Delta Government.
The outfit was officially inaugurated by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Thursday December 10 in Asaba to checkmate the rising cases of crime and herdsmen attacks across the state.
It was gathered that some personnel of the task force were chasing an unnumbered vehicle when a stray bullet hit the woman along the road.
The operative was said to have opened fire on the fleeing vehicle conveying two young men in an attempt to stop them.
The deceased woman, a petty trader, died instantly from the bullet wound.
It was further learnt that eye witnesses reportedly took the lifeless body of the deceased to Government House in Asaba in a protest against the killing.
When contacted, the Delta Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident.
She, however, denied that the shooting was carried out by personnel of the Command.
The Delta Police spokesman further stated that members of the team were already being investigated.
