A yet-to-be identified policeman attached to the Isiokolo (Otoro-Agbon) Divisional Police Headquarters in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State has been reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen.
It was gathered that the cop was shot dead when gunmen in motorcycle shot sporadically at policemen close to the Isiokolo police station.
The incident, NIGER DELTA TODAY learnt, occurred on Thursday creating fears among residents and uniform personnel.
Sources told our correspondent that the gunmen numbering two had arrived at the entrance of the station and shot sporadically at policemen mounting security at the time of the incident.
It was further gathered that two cops sustained injuries during the attack and they were rushed to the hospital where the victim was pronounced dead by doctors.
The second victim who was also critically injured was said to be responding to treatment as at the time of filing this report on Friday.
The attack was said to have forced a crack team of policemen and sister security agencies to launch a raid on Isiokolo, Kokori and other surrounding towns in the area.
It was learnt that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack during the raid.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, but clarified that it was not a raid on the station.
Edafe also confirmed the death of one of the victims, adding that the gunmen came with an Okada.
According to him, the other victim was receiving treatment at an undisclosed location while assuring a manhunt has been launched to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.
