A group of suspected cultists have allegedly invaded the operating office of Operation Safe Delta, a formation of the Delta State Police Command located Issele-Asagba, an outskirt of Asaba, the state capital.

Operation Safe Delta (OSD) is saddled with the responsibility of tackling the growing rate of criminal and cult related activities across the state.

It was gathered that the suspects who confessed to be members of Vikings confraternity stormed the police formation over the arrest of one of the members who they allegedly attempted to free from police detention.

Sources told our correspondent told that the incident occurred on Monday but were overpowered police operatives attached to OSD.

The suspects were said to have stormed the OSD Command office with about four cars with over 15 members.

However, seven members of the cult group, who were said to have been armed, were arrested during the incident.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, confirmed the attempted invasion of OSD Base and the arrest of seven suspects to our correspondent on Tuesday.

CP Inuwa stated that the suspects had already confessed to be members of the Vikings Confraternity.

“They invaded the command of Operation Safe Delta with the intent to rescue one of their members but they were rounded up our operatives.  The confirmed to be cultists. Seven of them were arrested. They are members of Vikings confraternity”, the Delta police boss said.

The commissioner of police said despite the confession of the suspects, an Asaba-based human rights activist, Mr. Harrison Gwamnishi, allegedly claimed that the suspects were members of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).

“Harrison called that the suspects were members of CDHR. I am surprised! If this is what CDHR constitute, there’s need for them to purge themselves of criminals and cultists hiding under the platform.

“CDHR is a noble committee with responsible people but if they allow criminals to hijack such noble group, it’s too bad. If after the arrest, Harrison will be sending message that such suspects are member of CDHR, it will be spoiling their name.

“I am not saying Harrison was part of the group that invaded Operation Safe Delta but he was sending messages that the arrested suspects were members of CDHR for them to be released”, Inuwa added.

    • You are the present state secretary. And have you done proper investigation to know if all that was written are true or lies? I know Harrison to be a very gentle and noble man. If they are cultists, let them be charged And not just detained. The court will decide. The police force has done even much more than anyone can say here . let them be charged according to the law. It is simple.
