Olorogun Solomon Ahwinahwi, a two term former House of Representatives member, has won the re-run primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections.
He was declared winner of the election held at the Ughelli Township Stadium on Monday with 80 votes beating four other aspirants for the ticket.
Recall that the appeal panel of the PDP had annulled the initial primaries won by a two term member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Olorogun Talib Tebite, following a petition by Ahwinahwi.
But prior to the Monday’s exercise two of the contenders – Talib Tebite and Samuel Mariere – have pulled out of the rerun primaries leaving two others vying for the ticket with Ahwinahwi who eventually won the election.
Tebite had in the May 22 primaries polled 34 votes to defeat Ahwinahwi who scored 30 votes while Mariere got 26 votes.
But declaring the results of Monday’s primaries PDP Returning Officer, Prof Collins Okafor, said Ahwinahwi scored 80 delegate votes to beat four others.
According to him, Tebite scored 3 votes while Julius Efeni Akpovoka and Eunice Okoh polled one vote respectively.
Okafor said “I have the privileged to announce this result, a total number of delegates are 99, while 87 were accredited to vote. Talib Tebite scored 3 votes, Eunice Okoh 1 vote, Akpovoka Efeni 1 vote while Solomon Ahwinawhi scored 80 and he is hereby declared the winner.”
An elated Ahwinahwi dedicated his victory to God almighty and the people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency for allowing him fly the flag of the PDP for the next elections.
He urged other contestants to support his quest to wrestle power from the APC in the 2023 general elections.
