Human rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani, on Tuesday lambasted governors of the 19 northern states for calling for regulation of the social media space in the country.
The former Kaduna senator said while the people of the north were being killed and kidnapped by insurgents, the governors of the region were merely concerned about gagging the social media space.
Sani’s reaction came following Monday’s meeting where governors of the region demanded for the censorship of the country’s social media space.
The governors, at the meeting attended by traditional rulers of the region, President of the Senate, and the Inspector-General of Police, however, accused #EndSARS protesters of pushing for regime change in the country.
They further alleged that the protesters where using the social media space to push for the separation of the country.
But Sani in a tweet on his verified twitter handle on Tuesday berated the governors of being concerned with the ravaging insecurity in the northern parts of the country.
The former lawmaker tweeted, “Northern Governors; Their Kinsmen are being slaughtered daily by Bandits & insurgents, their people are daily being Kidnapped & impoverished by ransom, their women raped & their villages are under siege. Their people live in Fear & Funerals. Yet, Social Media is their problem.”
