SGF Calls Labour Leaders To Closed-Door Meeting Over Nationwide Strike In Abuja

Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the organised labour comprising Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Abuja.

The emergency meeting is holding at the office of the SGF.

It was gathered that the emergency meeting was called to avert the ongoing strike over a new national minimum wage.

Recall that Nigerian workers had commenced nationwide strike over failure of the federal government and labour to agree on a new minimum wage and non-reversal of the hike on electricity increment.

But confirming the meeting with the SGF, President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Comrade Festus Osifo, said labour leaders comprising NLC and TUC were heading to the SGF office for the meeting.

It was further learnt that the meeting is meant to pressurise labour leaders to suspend or call off the strike which paralysed economic activities on Monday.
