Following the demise of the 93-year-old Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanand, contenders for the revered traditional stool are already jostling for the position.

Oba Adetunji joined his ancestors on Sunday at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, Oyo state.

The octogenarian monarch, crowned as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, reigned for over five years. Oba Adetunji was coronated on March 4, 2016.

NIGER DELTA TODAY reports that ten senior chiefs have been line-up as his possible replacement with Senator Lekan Balogun, Otun of Olubadan, top the pack.

Since Olubadan stool is not hereditary, the Olubadans are appointed on rotational basis in order of seniority.

An Olubadan is picked from the two existing two ruling houses – Otun Olubadan and Balogun – in line with the gazette.

The following are the possible successors to Oba Adetunji:

1) Lekan Balogun: Otun Olubadan.

2) Owolabi Olakulehin: Balogun Olubada‎n.
