Senate Bye-Election: Three Policemen Drown In Boat Mishap In Bayelsa

At least three policemen have reportedly drowned while heading for election duties at Oporoma in Bayelsa State. 

The victims were said to be heading to Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government of the state when their boat capsized. 

The accident occurred on Friday evening ahead of today’s (Saturday) senatorial bye-elections in Bayelsa Central and West. 

It was gathered that the victims were deployed to monitor today’s ongoing senatorial bye-election in the state. 

Although other policemen were involved in the accident, three of them were alleged to have died from the incident. 

The Bayelsa Police Spokesman, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the command was yet to ascertained the number of casualties. 

Butswat said, “The boat capsized on their way to Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.”
