The member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rev. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, has donated food items and other materials to the Ewu-Okuama Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at Ewu in Delta State.
Waive made the donation at Ewu town in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.
The federal lawmaker, while making the donation, said the relief materials were part of efforts aimed at cushioning the hardship currently being experienced by displaced Okuama Indigenes whose homes were razed by the military after the gruesome killing of 17 military personnel around the Okuama community by unknown gunmen.
Recall that men of the Nigerian military, in retaliation for the murder of 17 military personnel, including a lieutenant colonel, attacked and razed all houses except a church building in Okuama community.
The military attack has left thousands of Okuama residents in Ewu Kingdom displaced and homeless since March this year.
The Delta State Government, in her response, established an IDP Camp to provide a temporary shelter for victims of the military destruction.
But speaking at the IDP Camp, Waive described the Okuama incident as an unfortunate situation and commiserated with the people over their current predicament.
The lawmaker, who was received by the Chairman of the Ewu-Okuama Internally Displaced Persons Camp Management Committee, Mr. Abraham Ogbodo, assured that he would continue to work for the people of the constituency, especially in these trying times.
He commended the Ogbodo-led management committee for their sacrifice and for ensuring that Okuama people at the camp are well catered for in all ramifications.
Among the items presented to the camp by Rev. Waive are foodstuffs such as garri, groundnut oil, bags of rice and beans, seasonings, and tin tomatoes.
Other items presented by the lawmaker include mattresses, blankets, and a host of others.
He further assured the people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency that he would continue to work for them and protect their interests at all times.
In his response, the chairman of the Camp Management Committee, Mr. Ogbodo, commended Waive for the donation.
Ogbodo, a former editor of the Guardian Newspapers, called on Nigerians, Urhobos and humanitarian groups to come to the aid of the Okuama community.
