A renowned Mass communication scholar and social commentator, Dr. Emmanuel Ejomafuvwe Akpoveta, has emerged as the new Dean of School of Information and Communication Technology at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.
Akpoveta, immediate past Head of Department, Mass Communication, succeeds Dr. Edafe Atajeromavwo as the Dean of School of ICT.
The Mass Communication lecturer came first in the Deanship election conducted on April 20, 2023, at the polytechnic campus.
He defeated his closest rival, Dr. Samuel Ikelegbe, a principal lecturer in the Department of Office Technology Management, with 27 votes
Ikelegbe polled 13 votes from the 41 votes casted during the election where Akpoveta emerged the new Dean.
The Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mrs Florence Nweke, in company of other Admin staff, conducted the election.
Mrs. Nweke declared Dr. Akpoveta as the winner after votes were counted.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Akpoveta thanked his colleagues for electing him as the new Dean of School of ICT.
He promised to work with all departments to raise the academic standard in the School of ICT and collaborate with the polytechnic management to reposition the School.
Dr Akpoveta, who holds a PhD in Mass Communication, has delivered lectures on local, national and international issues both in Nigeria and abroad.
The School of ICT is made of four departments – Department of Mass Communication, Department of Computer Science, Department of Office Technology & Management and Department of Library & Information Science.
