Provost warns students against prostitution, hooliganism

The Provost, Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo, Professor Benedict Chukwuma Mbam has warned that any student of the college caught in an ‘unholy’ night activities, prostitution, hooliganism would face the full wrath of the law.

Mbam spoke on Saturday during the 19th matriculation ceremony of the institution in Ikwo.

He noted that students should be security conscious, avoid moving alone particularly when it is dark and shun bad friends that could lure them into cultism.

The provost emphasized that students should focus on their academic activities and maintains the fundamental principle upon which the institution has been built on.

According to him, the college has maintained and will continue to maintain a zero tolerance for all anti-social behaviours such as cultism, extermination malpractice, hooliganism, prostitution and other vices.

“Keep to the matriculation oaths and stay away from activities that will constitute threat to the peace of this noble institution of learning,  as any manifestation of such activities shall be dealt with in accordance with the college rules and regulations”.

He disclosed that 230 students were admitted into various departments of the college, 150 under NCE and 80 students were admitted for degree programs in the college.

Earlier in a remark, a member of the College Governing Council, Professor Ogbonnaya Ogbu urged the freshers to avoid any act that would truncate their educational pursuit, pointing out that education is the bed rock of every success in life.

Professor Ogbu stressed that for a graduate not to have job after graduation is based on his ability and performance during the academic period therefore the new intakes should bring out the best in them.

“Remember that your vision, inspiration to be a great person has started, work towards achieving your academic desire”, He said.

To the parents, the professor urged parents to monitor unusual marks and behaviour of their wards to know when they have join cultism and stop them from the evil act as it would ruin their life.
