President Tinubu Approves N70,000 As New Minimum Wage

President Bola Tinubu

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has approved N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers putting to rest, demands by Nigerians for an upward review of salaries over the removal fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

President Tinubu, however, promised to review the national minimum wage law every three years.

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, made the announcement at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Thursday.

The Minister said the president made the announcement at the ongoing meeting with leaders of the organised labour in Abuja.

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, and President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC),  Comrade Festus Usifo, led leaders of organised Labour to the meeting with the Federal Government.

Organised Labour had demanded for N250,000 national minimum wage which both the Federal Government and the private sector argued was not implementable.

Last week, President Tinubu met with Labour leaders over the Minimum wage issue where he declared that Nigerian workers deserve improved welfare, better wages, as well as safe and enhanced working conditions.
