The governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday, said he would not allow politics in the next two years to distract his administration’s efforts in fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of the state.

Okowa stated that his administration will remain focus towards building a solid foundation for his successor and successive governments in the state.

He spoke when the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, inaugurated Ighogbadu Secondary School built by the administration of Governor Okowa at Okere-Urhobo Kingdom in the oil-city of Warri.

The governor emphasised that his administration remained committed to the infrastructural development of the state.

Governor Okowa explained that 13-classroom block which has several learning facilities including state-of-act science laboratory was part of his administration’s efforts at bringing education closer to the people of the state.

The governor directed to the commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah, to laise with the people of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom to build additional classroom in the school.

“No amount of money invested in infrastructure is too much for our people. We are going to remain focus through the next two years of my administration. We will not allow politics to distract us from our work.

“Our goal is to continue to do the best for our people and also lay a solid foundation for the next administration to build upon.

“We are prepared to increase the number of classrooms to enable our children to have a befitting place to learn. It is our duty to continue to provide the enabling environment for our people to study”, Okowa stated.

In his remark before inaugurating the school buildings, Governor Diri of Bayelsa, lauded Governor Okowa on the project, saying that any government that fails to build classrooms should be ready to build prisons.

“There is a saying that if you do not want to build schools, be prepared to build prisons. Delta rather than building prisons has chosen to build schools.

“I see Governors, I see presidents, I see lawyers, I see doctors in the school. Your vision and impact of what you’re doing here today is resounding”, the Bayelsa governor added.

Governor Diri also similarly commissioned the 4.5km Ubeji dual access road and a new road linking the Warri Refinery in Ekpan, Uvwie Council area of the state.

Meanwhile, the Orosuen (King) of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Okumagba lll, has commended the Governor Okowa-led administration for his developmental stride in Warri city especially in his kingdom.

The Urhobo monarch, however, appealed to the state government to engage professional teachers and his subjects as workers in the new school.

He assured the governor that his palace and traditional chiefs in the area will work together to protect facilities in the school.
