The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of one of its officers during an attack by hoodlums on a police patrol team at Akwukwu-Igbo, the administrative headquarters of the Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 8am on Wednesday.
The police van the team was using was reportedly set ablaze by the armed-wielding bandits.
NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online gathered that some of the officers sustained varying degree of injuries.
The policemen were said to be on a stop-and-search duty when the hoodlums attacked them along Otulu-Akwukwu Igbo road.
The deceased police officer reportedly died on the spot.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident when contacted.

Edafe, however, said the attackers were hoodlums from the community.
He added that the principal suspected that allegedly led the hoodlums have been arrested by the command.
“Those who attacked our men are hoodlums within the community. We have arrested their leader. Only one policeman was killed. The incident occurred this morning”, DSP Edafe stated.
