Police Launches Operation ‘Safe Delta’ To Tackle Increasing Crime in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has launched a special operational squad named ‘Safe Delta’ to tackle the rising crime rate and strengthen security patrol throughout the three senatorial districts of the state.

State outgoing commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke, said ‘Safe Delta’ is part of efforts by the command at strengthening security and prevailing peace in the state.

In a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, noted that members of the squad has trained on their mandate and had been given 21 operational vehicles to immediately begin operations.

Onovwakpoyeya, in the statement on Thursday, commended the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for donating the operational vehicles to the command and, stressed that the new formation will meet the security concerns of Deltans.

“In constant response to the security challenges posed by the rapidly changing dynamics of crime and criminality in the society, it has become necessary to continually review and rejig the security architecture of the command.

“To this end, the Delta state Police command has set up a special operational squad with code name “safe Delta” to strengthen the operational capacity and security patrol throughout the state.

“The new squad has been given twenty-one (21) operational vehicles donated by the Delta State Government deployed to cover the three senatorial districts in the state: Delta North, Delta South, and Delta Central. Each district is further divided into sub sector for effective coverage”, the police image-maker stated.

The statement, while warning members of the special squad that the state police command would not tolerate any unprofessional conduct, urged the members of the public to report complaints against members of the team to the Police control Room number; 08036684974.

It stressed that the command irrevocably committed to protecting lives and property of the people and residents of the state.

Onovwakpoyeya explain further, “In the same vein, the vehicles are numbered according to their area of coverage for the purpose of identification.
