Police Arrest Kidnap Kingpin ‘Terrorizing Medical Doctors’ In Delta

The police in Delta State have arrested a notorious kidnapping kingpin who terrorises medical workers particularly doctors working at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, Desmond Ituje, was apprehended by a crack team of police operatives who had been discreetly trailing him for months over his alleged involvement in high-profile kidnap activities around the Oghara/Sapele area of the state.

NIGER DELTA TODAY exclusively learnt that Desmond, a dreaded kidnapper and leader of a kidnapping syndicate in the area, led the arms-wielding hoodlums who abducted the President of DELSUTH’s Resident Doctors in Oghara, Dr. Jerry Isogun.

This medium had reported that Isogun was ambushed and kidnapped to an unknown destination on Wednesday November 20, 2019 while returning home from work along the Oghara-Mossogar-Sapele axis of the Benin/Sapele highway.

He was freed three days later when police operatives were closing in on his captors.

Aside Isogun, kidnapping and robbery activities have made several staff of DELSUTH to abandon their duty posts as many workers in the area had suffered similar fate in the hands of the dreaded hoodlums who fleece victims of millions of naira as ransoms.

Desmond, according to impeccable sources at the Delta Police Command, was arrested on Wednesday January 9, 2020 at his hideout and had been whisked to the State Police headquarters where he was said to have made incriminating confession of his involvement several kidnapping cases in the area.

The suspect hails from Okpara-Waterside in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

“He confessed to be the leader of the kidnap group terrorizing residents, doctors and other medical workers between Oghara, Sapele and Eku area. He told our team of investigators that he has kidnapped several persons”, one of the sources involved in his arrest disclosed.

When contacted on the development, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, confirmed the arrest of the suspect to our correspondent.

Inuwa said documents belonging to the DELSUTH’s Resident Doctors leader, Dr. Isogun, were recovered from him.

“A notorious kidnapper who was involved in the abduction of a medical doctor at DELSUTH Oghara has been arrested by my men. He has confessed his involvement in serial kidnapping incidents in the area. We have recovered the doctor’s credentials they took away”, the police commissioner disclosed.

He also confirmed to NIGER DELTA TODAY that the suspect had made some confessional statement regarding members of his gang and that the police crack team is already on the gang members’ trail.

 Inuwa further assured the people of the state that the police under his watch will ensure the security of lives and property across the state.
