Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Over Murder Of Bayelsa Businessman

The police in Bayelsa State have arrested a 21-year-old man, Tari Logos, for his alleged involvement in the killing a businessman, Chief Abraham Bayefa, in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Chief Bayefa was shot dead on July 22nd, 2020 along the Aritalin Junction area of Ovom community in Yenagoa Local Government area of the State by gunmen suspected to be cultists.

The deceased, it was learnt, was shot at a closed range while pleading with the gunmen who were attempting to dispose traders in the community.

A niece of the deceased, Miss Timipa Bayefa, confirmed the killing of the victim, noted that vigilante in the area apprehended one of the suspects.

Timipa said,  “He (Bayefa) was shot dead on the spot by two armed cultists while robbing in a shop close to his house at Aritalin Junction, Ovom, Yenagoa. The incident occurred on 22nd of July at around 3pm.”

Our correspondent gathered that one of the suspects escaped after the shooting.

It was further Logos, who is now undergoing interrogation at the Bayelsa Police Command, had confessed to the crime but said he partner shot the victim.

However the family of the deceased, however, alleged that the police authorities are demanding for a sum of N150, 000 as autopsy fee to confirm if it was the bullets from the suspect that killed him before charging the matter to court.

 The Family of the deceased however pleaded with civil society groups including the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) to assist in ensuring that the killers of their father are brought to book.

Meanwhile, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

He said,” One of the suspect Tari Logos 21 years, is being detained at state CID and Investigation is ongoing to arrest his cohorts.”
