A group under the auspices of the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has threatened to stop Northern pipeline maintenance and rehabilitation contractors from operating within the Niger-Delta region if their contracts are not revoked.
The group, also faulted the alleged secret deals of awarding pipeline maintenance contracts to Northern oil contractors by the Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr Mele Kyari, while excluding contractors from the region.
Speaking to journalist at the weekend, after an expanded executive meeting with a coalition of other Ex-Militant groups, the group frown at the nonchalant and suppressive attitudes of the management of NNPCL and it’s sister agencies responsible for the award of the Multi billion dollar pipelines maintenance and rehabilitation contracts without recourse to indigenous contractors.
The National Secretary of MOSIEND, Amb. Winston Cotterel Amain, who spoke on behalf of the group, threatened that, if the awarded pipelines maintenance and rehabilitation is not revoked and re-awarded to qualified Niger Deltans, the presence of the contractor are not welcome anywhere around the creeks.
He maintained that the Niger Delta companies within the oil and gas sector has the prerequisite capacity in carrying out the said contracts why then award to northerners if not for selfish reasons?
“A typical example of our capacity in the Niger Deltans is our active involvement in pipelines surveillance which over the years the Nigeria Government with all the military formation has failed woefully to protect”
“We shall resist all plots and plans to allow the GMD NNPCL Mele kyari and his cronies to cart away such huge amount of money at the detriment of the Niger Delta people”, the statement said.
MOSIEND and its militants affiliate hereby call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to immediately called for the investigation of the activities of Mele kyari NNPCL, especially the process in awarding this contracts to Northerners depriving the Niger Deltans to advert another round of militancy in the Niger Delta region.
