PHOTOS: Naval Officer Dies In Auto Crash Two Weeks After Wedding In Warri

An auto crash along the Bayelsa State section of the East-West Road has reportedly claimed the life of an officer of the Nigerian Navy identified as Gabriel Osemuodiamen Aimionowane.

Aimionowane’s car was said to have plunged into the river at Koso Bridge in Bayelsa State.

Sources told NIGER DELTA TODAY that the accident occurred about 2pm on Monday when the officer was returning to his place of primary assignment in Akwa Ibom.

Information said to have been recovered from his crashed car revealed that the deceased officer was attached to Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Jubilee.

Aimionowane with service number NN/4110 had just wedded two weeks ago at the popular KFT Place in Ekpan near Warri, Delta State.

The naval personnel who hailed from Esan Central Edo State was pronounced dead by doctors at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Yenagoa, where he was rushed.

The Honda car which he was said to be driving was seriously damaged.

An eyewitness said the late Aimionowane was on high speed when suddenly the vehicle somersaulted severally and fell into the river.

A naval officer at the Central Command in Yenagoa confirmed the development on condition of anonymity on Thursday but declined to give details.

A source who was part of the rescuing team confirmed the incident, adding that the deceased corpse had been deposited at the Federal Medical Center in Yenogoa.

When contacted on Thursday on the incident, the Bayelsa Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr Asinim Butswat said he was not aware of the incident.

Efforts to reach the authorities of the Nigerian Navy in Bayelsa for official response was unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
