Petrol Tanker Crushes Okada Rider To Death In Delta

An unidentified commercial motorcyclist otherwise known as Okada rider has been reportedly crushed to death in the Sapele area of Delta State.

The victim died in an early morning accident involving a motorcycle and the truck said to be carrying petroleum product on Wednesday.

NIGER DELTA TODAY learnt that the incident occurred along the busy New Road near Owumi Junction in Sapele at about 6am.

It was further learnt that the man died as a result of collision between the driver of the truck and the Okada rider.

Sources claimed that the incident occurred when the bike rider was attempting to overtake the speeding petrol tanker resulting in the deceased being crushed to death on the spot.

“I was standing at the other side of the road when the Okada passed while the tanker was trying to manoeuvre its way from New road to Owumi road and the next thing we heard was someone screaming and all what I saw was a man under the truck’s rear tyre.

“Fortunately, the Okada man escaped unhurt,” a lady witness, Angela claimed.

The incident which led to showdown between Okada riders in the area and the tanker driver was resolved following the deployment of police operatives to the scene.

It was gathered that the late Okada rider’s colleagues had protested the development, and threatened to set the tanker ablaze.

NIGER DELTA TODAY’s sources claimed the late Okada rider allegedly drove recklessly.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke, confirmed the development, noting that the motorcycle ran into the truck.

He said, “The man was not crushed by the truck but the motorcycle ran into it. And the okada rider ran away.”
