The national chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (rted) is dead.
He died at the age of 68 at a hospital on Thursday evening in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Unconfirmed reports say Nkanga died of alleged COVID-19 complications.
He was said to have been briefly sick before his passage on Thursday where he was receiving medicare.
He was a former military governor of Akwa Ibom State from September 1990 to January 1992 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.
The National Secretary of PANDEF, Dr. Alfred Mulade, confirmed the demise of the Niger Delta leader to NIGER DELTA TODAY Online on Friday.
Mulade said, “We have received the sad news of the death of Nkanga (PANDEF chairman). At the moment, we don’t have details of his death. It’s a big loss to the people of Niger Delta region.”
PANDEF is the umbrella body of ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta region where the late Nkanga was a vocal vioce until his demise on Thursday.
