The immediate past governor of Oyo State and Deputy National Chairman (South) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, has been appointed to act as APC national chairman.
This followed Tuesday’s Appeal Court ruling upholding the earlier suspension of its former embattled national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
A statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, disclosed this on Tuesday night.
Issa-Onilu said the choice of Ajimobi was in line with the APC constitution which stated that the national vice chairman from the zone of the suspended chairman will act in scenario such as Oshiomhole’s suspension.
The statement read, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has received the news indicating the Appeal Court has upheld the suspension of the Party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by an FCT High Court pending the determination of the substantive suit.
“Guided by advice from the Party’s legal department in line with the provisions of Section 14.2. (iii) of the Party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi will serve as the Party’s Acting National Chairman.
“According to Section 14.2. (iii),of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South “Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone’.”
The former Oyo governor is currently sick and battling for his health.
