The Okpe Youth Council (OYC) has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for establishing a campus of the Delta State University of Science and Technology in Orerokpe, the traditional headquarters of Okpe Kingdom.
OYC, however, called on the people Isoko ethnic nationality to show understanding with the latest development, stressing that an establishment of the Orerokpe Campus of the institution would not in anyway undermine the development and growth of its main campus in Ozoro.
A statement issued by the National President of Okpe Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Israel Ejiro Otomewo and National Secretary Amb. Samuel Okakuro Ekpo, noted that Governor Oborevwori has secured approval of three additional faculties for the institution.
The statement noted that there was nothing wrong with creation of Ororekpe Campus just as Oleh and Anwai Campuses were established out of the popular Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka in the interest of unity and justice.
“The leadership of the apex Youth body in Okpe Kingdom known as Okpe Youth Progressive Association (aka) Okpe Youth Council led by Comr Israel Ejiro Otomewo heartily commend the leadership prowess of His Excellency, Okakuro Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O Oborevwori JP, the Executive Governor of Delta State for the establishment of Delta State University of Science and Technology, Orerokpe campus.
“This move will help to develop Orerokpe and its environs rapidly as embedded in Governor Sheriff’s “MORE AGENDA” which means Meaningful Development, Opportunities for all and Realistic Reforms. This realistic reform of establishment of Delta State University of Science and Technology, Orerokpe Campus will bring about opportunities for all, especially residence of Orerokpe and its environs and will also bring meaningful development to that area of the state.
“It is also important to note that establishment of campuses from the main University has been a tradition in the Educational Sector globally. In the past, we have Oleh and Anwai campuses of the Delta State University Abraka, established in Delta South and Delta North respectively, until recently when Anwai campus was upgraded to a full-fledged University, now known as Dennis Osadebey University “Anwai, while the Law Faculty of DELSU is in Oleh till date. Also, most recently, Owa Alero campus was established from the University of Delta Agbor. When Anwai and Oleh Campuses were established from the main Delta State University Abraka, did the People of Abraka or other Urhobo community stage protest?
“In this case, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, graciously approved the establishment of critical Facilities, faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro. Instead of protest, the people’s Governor deserves commendations.
“Another thing worthy of note is that, the establishment of Orerokpe campus will not in any way impair the development of Isoko Nation or any other ethnic nationality rather it will create opportunity for all Deltans, thereby helping to Advance Delta as promised by His Excellency, Governor of Delta State in his “MORE AGENDA”.
“Significantly, Okpe and Isoko has a great and memorable historical ties, therefore we appeal to our Isoko brothers to be calm and look critically at the merits of the establishment of Orerokpe campus to Deltans in general and Okpe Kingdom in particular.
“Finally, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is a detribalized leader, he promised to be Governor to all Deltans. For us in Okpe Youth Council, we are aware that our Patron, Father and Leader has governed and will continue to lead the state with the fear of God, fairness and justice. We are very confident that Delta is in a safe hand and the evidences are visible in the policies and programmes of his administrations”, the statement read.
Isoko nation and ozoro in particular is not against a campus in orerokpe but the Governor should not removed management science and Administration from ozoro rather give orerokpe campus another faculty
