At least one person has been reportedly shot dead with two other persons sustaining gunshots injuries when gunmen suspected to be political thugs invaded a venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Emu-Unor community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was learnt that the meeting was held in respect of the forthcoming PDP ward Congress in the state.
The meeting held on Friday was already midway when the political thugs invaded the venue which is a home of one of the leaders of the party in the area.
The incident was said to have led to panic as PDP supporters at the venue had to scamper for safety when the armed-wielding hoodlums were shooting sporadically at the venue.
A PDP chieftain from the area who attended the meeting confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday on condition of anonymity.
The source identified the deceased as simply Onyeka.
“They came in large numbers with the intention of disrupting the meeting and in the process, they opened fire but the bullets hit one of the thugs”, the source said.
According to our source, two other persons sustained bullet wounds during the melee.
He said the situation was brought under control by a team of police officers who were on patrol in the area.
He said one of the thugs was arrested, adding that the body of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary.
