One Killed In Asaba Collapsed Building, Four Hospitalized

 A residential building behind Police Officers Mess, Okwe, near Asaba in Oshimili south local government area of Delta State collapsed on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of one person and four hospitalized.

 The landlord, a 79-year-old group Captain Sam Akhariwe, who is among the injured ones, is in a critical condition in an undisclosed hospital in Asaba, the state capital.

It was gathered on Saturday that the building carved in following a thunderstorm which affected the foundation of the building.

It was learnt that the building Collapsed as result of “structural defects” as soon as the heavy rain felled hard on it.

According to sources, substandard construction materials were used because builders without civil engineering knowledge were used for the construction.

At scene of the collapsed building, men of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Oshimili south local government Council chairman, Comrade Uche Osadebe, were seen to rescue the situation.
