Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, has once again appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to make the $20 billion Ogidigben Gas Project in the Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State his star project.
The Itsekiri monarch said considering the importance of the project, the Buhari-led administration should make the commencement of work its top agenda in the interest of the nation’s economy.
The revered monarch made the appeal on Thursday athis 4th coronation anniversary held at Ode Itsekiri, the ancestral home of the Itsekiri people in Delta State.
Ogiame Ikenwoli noted that the project stands to create employment opportunities for not only Deltans but Nigerians at large.
The traditional ruler further posited that the gas project should be a landmark achievement of the Buhari-led administration.
According to him, “We have at every opportunity called Mr. President’s attention to the Ogidigben Gas Project. Ordinarily, this is a project that should engage Nigeria’s full priority, given the economic importance, job creating opportunities and other trickle down economic potentials it promises.
“We believe that this should ve on of President Buhari’s star project and will continue tobpleas with him for work to resume as soon as possible.”
Further commending the president for the recent approval and traction to the brand new Warri Deep Sea Port, he disclosed that he had in the course of the year advocated for the revival of the Warri Port, as well as other road projects.
The monarch also commended governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for the provision of a 500KVA generator for the electrification of Ode Itsekiri, with plans to connect the community to the national grid.
He also urged Itsekiri nation to continue to ensure peaceful coexistence with her neighbours to foster unity and development in the state.
