Chief Press Secretary to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Mr. Andrew Okungbowa, has resigned.
Okungbowa, who barely took up his appointment five months ago, resigned his position following his alleged maltreatment by the Government.
It was gathered that Obaseki’s spokesman was not allowed to fully take charge of his position as the interface between the Governor and media.
Okungbowa, it was further learned, decided to throw-in the towel over his principal’s preference for social media influencers within the government.
Obaseki also treated social media influencers better than conventional media, a decision, Okungbowa found unprofessional.
Meanwhile, Okungbowa confirmed his resignation in a letter on dated December 4, 2023.
In the letter addressed to Obaseki, the former CPS thanked the Governor for appointing him as his official spokesman.
The letter read, “I write to formally inform you of my resignation from my position as CPS to the governor, with immediate effect.
“I am most grateful for the privilege and opportunity to serve the governor and the state. Please, accept my kind felicitation.”
Okungbowa was appointed as CPS on July 25, 2023, in a statement by the Secretary to Edo State Government, Ogie Osarodion.
Prior to his appointment, Okungbowa was the editor of travels and tourism at the New Telegraph Newspaper. He had also previously worked with The Guardian.
