The supremacy battle between Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his predecessor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Delta South Senatorial District, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has entered a new chapter with the ex-governor personally taking charge of Okowa’s ouster team.
Uduaghan, who now chair the APC Campaign Council, vowed to ensure that he sink the ship for Okowa as their cold-war enters new phase.
The former governor spoke on Friday during the inauguration of Delta State APC Campaign Council in Asaba, the state capital.
He said he would personally hold Ogboru hand that he defeated in 2007 and 2011 at the governorship elections to replace Okowa.
Uduaghan also lampooned his party men and women for lacking the winning mentality, saying that without such spirit, it would be hard for his new party to secure victory at the 2019 general elections in the state.
According to him, “As a party, we must campaign. I just want to recognise something and I must tell the truth. What I have noticed in APC in Delta is that we have not inculcated the spirit of winning elections. That is what I want us to know today; without that spirit of winning elections, and if you do not win elections, you are nothing.
“Now that I have crossed to the APC, I have come to hold his (Ogboru) hand to show him the road to become governor.”
The former governor also denied allegation of playing anti-party activities, adding that he was in APC for good and would do anything to ensure the party is victorious in the forthcoming elections in the state.
He observed that some members of the party were only interested in the presidential election, adding that efforts should be geared towards winning all elections in the state irrespective of the differences some members hold against each other.
“So, this party must be built from the units up and it is from the unit level that we will determine whether we shall win or not. This is because on the day of election every candidate will be in his or her own unit”, he said.
The state governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, in his remark at the inauguration boasted that he would defeat his rival at the election, saying that there were no more feuds among party members.
Ogboru charged APC members to remain committed to victory of the party at all elections beginning from the presidential elections to the state houses of assembly polls.
