The worldwide President-General of the apex socio-cultural umbrella of the Igbo race, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, is dead.
Iwuanyanwu, who was the 11th President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, passed on Thursday after a brief illness.
He died at the age 82.
Confirming the passage of Iwuanyanwu in a statement, his son, Jide, said the late Igbo leader is survived by his wife, children and many grandchildren.
The statement read, “The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State announces the demise of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo.
“Chief Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness. He was aged 82.
“Chief Iwuanyanwu before his death was President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.”
The late Iwuanyanwu leaves behind his wife, Frances Iwuanyanwu, as well as his numerous children and grandchildren.
According to the statement, the family will announce funeral arrangements in due course, after necessary consultations.
Iwuanyanwu was a renowned businessman and politician, born in September 1942 in Umuohii, Ikeduru LGA, Imo State.
He was also the publisher of Champion Newspapers and one of the most influential Igbo businessmen of his generation.
