The founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc, Mr Atedo Peterside says the Nigerian economy is alleged to be structured in favour a handful ‘well-connected’ persons at the detriment of other investors.
Peterside, a renowned economist, also lamented that only Dangote Industries Limited is allowed to move goods across the nation’s closed borders.
He stated this in a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Tuesday where he demanded equal right for all legitimate exporters and importers in the country.
According to him, “Allowing legitimate exporters and importers to move their goods across the border should be a no-brainer.
“Why refuse everybody else and allow only one company (Dangote)?
“This is why some of us argue that the Nigerian economy is rigged in favour of a handful of well-connected persons.”
The tweet has attracted over 200 comments and over four thousand retweets from his over 46,000 followers.
Recall that the country’s land borders have been closed for more than a year as part of efforts by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to check the smuggling of contraband into the country.
