Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were conspicuously absent in most polling units in Warri during Saturday’s presidential/National Assembly elections.
Our correspondent, who monitored the exercise across the city observed that at 2:40pm, electoral materials and INEC officials were yet to arrived for voting to commence.
A voter, Oghogho Erica, told NIGER DELTA TODAY that electoral materials were not sent to Ogunu/Ekurede Urhobo ward in Warri South LGA before electorate started leaving the polling at about 3:05pm.
The situation was not different at Mowoe Primary School along Robert Road, off Okere Road in Warri South LGA where voters also waited in vain.
It was also further observed that elections did not take place at the various polling units in Okumagba l and ll forcing some residents to protest the development.
Voters who were unable to cast their votes were seen lamenting the situation at the various polling units visited by a team of journalists.
A voter, Mr. Martins Emuobo, told journalists, “There was no voting in Ekurede-Itsekiri ward and the various polling units in Ogiame Atuwatse Primary School. This is 3:55 no electoral materials for us to vote. We want to exercise our franchise.”
