The Delta State governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Goodnews Agbi, has backed the redesigning of the naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria, saying the policy will check vote buying by political parties.
Agbi was, however, quick to add that ill-timing of the policy was hampering the implementation and making the new naira notes available for Nigerians.
The NNPP guber candidate spoke when he visited the palace of the traditional ruler of Umusume, the Okpaluku of Umusume, Obiaruku town of Ukwani local government area of state.
Agbi told the monarch that he represents the new hope for a better Delta and called on the people of Ndokwa Nation to support and vote him as the next governor of the state in the March 11 governorship polls.
He noted that if CBN had carefully implemented the policy, it would have tackle vote buying by the big political parties in the state.
Agbi called on the governor of CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele and the federal government to ensure release of more new notes into the system.
He, however, pleaded with Nigerians particularly Deltans to embrace the new CBN policy, saying “Just like child birth, the labour and the pain can be excruciating but after these pains come joy.”
“If this policy is well implemented, we will see the reduction in kidnapping, the value of the Naira will continue to improve, prices of goods and services will come down because we will see few Naira chasing plenty goods.
“Above all, the coming elections will now be on level playing field. Nigerians are ingenious at criminality. It will be very difficult to transfer money to 80million voters.
“The APC counting on Tinubu’s ill-gotten wealth to buy votes in Delta and the country will be the greatest loser. We shall all appear before the people on an election day in a level playing field”, he declared.
Agbi, a renowned educationist and former lecturer with the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, urged Nigerians to reject APC for allegedly inflicting untold hardship on Nigerians.
“APC has visited several hardships on the people and we should vote them out of power by voting for NNPP”, he added.
Agbi, while receiving royal prayers for success during the polls from the Okpaluku, called “Okpaluku and his chiefs to mobilise their household and the entire community to vote for me. If voted to power, I will provide free education from primary to secondary school levels and provide scholarships to brilliant students to study anywhere in the world.”
Meanwhile, Agbi also attended the wedding of one of his media aides at Obiaruku and prayed for the success of the union.
