NBTE Approves 16 New ND, HND Programmes For Delta Polytechnic Otefe-Oghara

As Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri continue to break new grounds at the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has approved 15 new academic programmes for the innovation-driven polytechnic.

 

The programmes which comprised National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) courses will expand the carrying capacity of the existing academic programmes currently being offered as the institution continues its push for global attention.

 

With the addition of the new courses, the Polytechnic now runs 46 globally competitive, productive, and sustainable national and international development academic programmes that meet the today’s and future market needs.

 

Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, disclosed the NBTE’s approval of the programmes in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the new programmes were granted following the NBTE Resource verification visit to the school.

 

The newly approved programmes for National Diploma (ND) include; Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science and Management Technology, Glass and Ceramics Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Foundry Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Metallurgical Engineering Technology, Photography, and Multimedia Technology.

While courses for Higher National Diploma (HND) are; Science Laboratory Technology (Microbiology/Biochemistry Option), Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence), Computer Science (Cyber Security and Data Protection option), Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology (Control and Instrumentation Option), Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Welding Engineering Technology.

 

Professor Ufuophu-Biri, who is however filled with joy over the feat, commended the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori for promoting, advancing, and developing education in the state.

 

He also thanked Governor Sheriff for supporting the Institution by giving it independence of initiative and providing financial, material, and moral support to the Polytechnic.

 

The Rector also praised the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerovwo Tonukari, and the State House Committee on Education, chaired by Chief Charles Emetulu, for supporting the development of education in the state generally and supporting the Polytechnic mainly.

 

Professor Ufuophu-Biri pointed out that the state government’s support has boosted the morale of the staff to engage in groundbreaking scientific research, which has produced rare innovations. For example, the Polytechnic invented a fuel-less generator that runs on a “symbiotic mechanistic operation pattern.”

He also commended the Polytechnic’s management, staff, and students for being outstanding in all facets of academic life.
