A Benin-based legal practitioner, Mr. Uyi Frank Obayagbona, who was reportedly abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Saturday September 5, 2020, has regained freedom.
Obayagbona was learnt to have been released by his abductors on Wednesday following the intervention of the national leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
NBA’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Rapulu Nduka, confirmed the release of the lawyer in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the President NBA, Mr. Olumide Akpata, sent top officials of the body to Benin to liaise with the Edo State Police Commissioner to ensure that the victim was rescued.
“The President of the Nigerian Bar Association – Mr. Olumide Akpata, in keeping with the promise that the welfare of members of the NBA will always take top priority, set up a team to meet with the Edo State Commissioner of Police, to demand that every measure be set in motion to effect the release of our kidnapped colleague.

“The team was made up of John Aikpokpo-Martins (1st VP NBA), Kunle Edun (Welfare Sec NBA), Pius Oiwoh (Chairman NBA Benin Branch), Asamah Kadiri, Osarodion Obayagbona and Mrs. Ogochukwu Iwoba.
“The team after its meeting with the Edo State Commissioner of Police was assured that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that Mr. Uyi Frank Obayagbona is released unhurt.
“The Nigerian Bar Association can confirm that Mr. Uyi Frank Obayagbona has now been released”, the statement added.
