…Three Abducted Female Students Rescued
Students of the College of Health and Technology Otuogidi in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Wednesday overpowered police operatives involved the arrest of suspected kidnappers of three female students of the institution, setting them ablaze.
It was gathered that the arrest of the suspects, made possible with the combined efforts of the policemen and vigilante groups on Tuesday evening.
The spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the angry mob from the Community overpowered the security Operatives and burned the Kidnappers to death.
Butswat however confirmed that the three abducted girls from the institution were rescued following a tip off on Tuesday at about 4.25pm by a combined team of policemen and the vigilante.
According to him, ‘the combined team combed Otuabala forest, in Ogbia Local Government Area, and rescued the three students of College of Health and Technology Otuogidi, who were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Monday.’
‘The victims were in good condition. Meanwhile, two kidnappers were arrested and two wooden carved guns that resemble AK 47 Rifles were recovered from them.’
It would be recalled that angry students of the Bayelsa State College of Health Technology (BYCOHTEC) had on tuesday staged a protest against the Monday abduction of three nursing students of the Institution along the College of Health Technology Road, Otuogidi in Ogbia Local Government area of the State.
The protesting students, who barricaded Ogbia-Nembe road on Tuesday, called on security agencies to expedite and rescue the abducted girls of the institution..
The authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command have confirmed the abduction of the girls of the institution.
According to the statement issued yesterday by the spokesman of the Command, Asimin Butswat, “On 2/12/2019 at about 1120 hours, three female students namely; Jennifer Solomon Ebefini ‘f’, Lucky-Ere Germany ‘f’ and Deborah Doctor ‘f’ of Environmental Health Department of College of Health Technology Otuogidi, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, were kidnapped at gunpoint by unknown gunmen, along the College of Health Technology Road, Otuogidi”.
“Police were alerted, a search of the area was conducted and a 9 Horsepower Engine boat containing some foodstuffs and other items used by the kidnappers were recovered. The entire surrounding area was cordoned off and a Joint Patrol is ongoing to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers”.
“The command hereby appeals to the students of the college to be calm as efforts are intensified to rescue the victims and protect the student community”.
