Pandemonium was on Friday averted when a midnight inferno destroyed the Post Graduate Hostel of the Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
The fire was said to have engulfed the building at about 2am, destroying most parts of the building.
Our correspondents gathered that the fire ravaged the first and second floors of the two storey building before the raging fire was finally put off by the fire service of the institution.
NIGER DELTA TODAY Online correspondent in Abraka reports that the fire was alleged to have commenced from the second floor of the hostel owing to an electrical fault.
It was gathered that no life was lost in the incident.
“Most students were still awake when the incident started. They quickly alerted their colleagues and everyone fled for safety”, a student told one of our correspondents on Friday morning.
However, students’ property were destroyed by the inferno.
Meanwhile, the DELSU Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eddy Agbure, confirmed the incident when contacted.
He described the demage as ‘colossal’ but expressed happiness that no life was lost in the incident.
