March 18: Urhobo Monarchs Meet, Speak On Delta Governorship/Assembly Election

The forum of Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council otherwise known as Ukoko R’ Ivie R’ Urhobo has called for a violence-free and credible governorship and state assembly election in Delta State in Saturday March 18.

They also called on the governorship candidates of the various political parties to honour the peace accord which they signed to promote a peaceful exercise.

National Spokesperson of the traditional rulers, Ovie of Great Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty, King Obukohwo Monday Whiskey (JP), Udurhie 1, disclosed this after a meeting of the Council held at the Palace of the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom in Effurun, Delta State.

Reeling out the outcome of the meeting, Udurhie 1 said there was need for political actors to conduct themselves lawfully to sustain the relative peace in the state before, during and after the election.

The meeting convened under the leadership of His Royal Majesty, Dr Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, particularly cautioned Urhobo and indeed all governorship candidates to play by the rule.

The monarchs urged the state government to ensure a level playing field for all the various contestants from governorship to state assembly elections.

A communique read,”The leadership of Ukoko r’ Ivie r’ Urhobo comprises of the 24 Urhobo’s Kingdom rose from an enlarged meeting today, Wednesday March 8, 2023, with the following resolution:

“That all our sons and daughters who are active actors in the political system must do so by promoting peace and security in our area during and after the elections.

“That peace and security of our people is paramount and that we’re advising all our actors directly or indirectly involved in the electioneering process to promote peace and security in Delta during and after the elections.

“That all the actors should play the game according to the rule and that this meeting was convened under the leadership of His Royal Majesty, Dr Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I”.
