Lagos: Sanwo-Olu To Abolish Pension Law For Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode, Others

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the State Government would soon repeal the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007) for former governors and their deputies in the state.

The Public Office Holder provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former Governors and their Deputies.

Former governors of the state including national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu; current Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN; immediate past governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, currently beneficiaries of the law.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Tuesday while presenting the 2021 budget to the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He said the repeal will help the state government to cut costs of governance in the state.

According to him, an executive bill would be sent to the Lagos Assembly for legislative approval to promote selfless service in governance.

“Mr. Speaker and Honourable Members of the House, in light of keeping the costs of governance low and to signal selflessness in public service, we will be sending a draft executive bill to the House imminently for the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former Governors and their Deputies”, he said.
