President Muhammadu Buhari says killers of Dr. Chike Akunyili, will face both the judgment of man, and that of God.
Chike is the husband of the late former Information Minister and NAFDAC DG, Prof. Dora Akunyili.
He was murdered at Umuoji in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State on Tuesday evening, after attending an event at Onitsha, where the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), honoured his wife posthumously.
Buhari, in a statement issued by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, expressed deep sadness over the gruesome murder of Akunyili.
The President said he shared the pain of the Akunyili and their families and friends whose lives would never remain the same after the inhuman and reprehensible act that happened in Onitsha, Anambra State.
He added that he had fond memories of working with the late Dora Akunyili at the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) and that Nigerians would never forget the memory of the amazon, who distinguished herself as a courageous, dependable and patriotic citizen.
He enjoined security agencies and leaders of thought to work harder to bring an end to the violence being unleashed on innocent Nigerians.
The President assured the grieving families who lost their loved ones in the incident that the perpetrators of the “heinous act will face both the judgment of man, and that of God.”
Dr. Akunyili who marked his 70th birthday last November, is survived by six children and several grandchildren.
One of the children is Njideka Crosby, a famous artist based in Los Angeles, United States.
