The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri has insisted that the Auxiliary bishop of the diocese, Moses Chikwe, who was abducted On Sunday in Imo State, is still alive.
Archbishop of Owerri Catholic, His Grace, Anthony Obinna, disclosed this on Wednesday while describing purported death of the kidnapped Catholic priest as untrue.
There had been reports that the abductors of Bishop Chikwe had reportedly killed him following reported discovery of a corpse alleged to be that of the kidnapped Catholic bishop.
According to the report, the corpse of the prelate was allegedly found on Tuesday at one of the communities in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state.
The alleged killing of the priest reportedly caused panic and anxiety in the state especially among Catholics.
However, Archbishop Obinna, dismissed the death of the bishop in a statement on Wednesday.

In the statement signed by the Assistant Secretary of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, Rev. Fr. Nnaemeka Njezi, noted that there was no truth in the death rumour.
The statement called on Christians especially Catholics to continue to pray for the safe release of Bishop Chikwe.
“His grace, Most Rev Anthony Obinna, Archbishop of Owerri, hereby requests all Christ’s faithful and people of goodwill at large to disregard the purported news feed by one Useni Yusuf at AJ press on the killing of the auxiliary bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Most Rev Moses Chikwe.
“This information is unconfirmed, misleading and does not come from the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri.
“We continue to appeal that (we) all join the archbishop in prayers for the release of Bishop Chikwe and Mr Ndubuisi Robert, his driver”, the statement clarified.
