Ijaw Youths Meet In Bayelsa Over NDDC, Frown At IMC/NASS Squabble


The leadership of the Ijaw Youths worldwide, the Ijaw Youths Council Tuesday held its inaugural meeting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, declaring that the squabble between the Interim Monitoring Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the National Assembly members is embarrassing and disgraceful.

The meeting, which was convened by the National President, Comrade Peter Timothy Igbifa to mark the inaugural meeting of the 8th National Council of Ijaw youths, declared that the Ijaw youths frown seriously at the unnecessary accusations and counter accusations currently going on between the national assembly and the IMC.

The Spokesman of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, while speaking with newsmen after the meeting that lastedbthree hours at the Ijaw House, declared that part of the solution to the ongoing brouhaha between the NDDC and the National Assembly can be resolved with the strict implementation of the original master plan afor the development of the Niger Delta region

According to Ekerefe, “the Ijaw Youth Council have decided to embark on a fact finding mission to the National Assembly and the IMC independently to ascertain the root course of the crisis rocking the NDDC and make recommendations after due consultations with stakeholders from the region.”

The Ijaw youths also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, appoint a substantive Coordinator for the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) and as well begin the implementation of the remaining legs of the program.

On the internal complaint by some members of the Ijaw Youths Council following the peaceful election conducted in OporoZa in Warri South-West Local Government Council areas of Delta State, the IYC leadership set up a 7-man post election committee headed by the Deputy president Council Comrade Savior Olali to resolve all post election issues and assured all stakeholders in the region of all inclusive administration.
